When InBev (formerly InterBrew UK) needed to improve access to its data entry and stock control systems back in 2000 it chose Flynet to develop and implement a new web-based interface. Now the brewing giant has come back for another round, seeking further benefits through deployment of an enhanced application built in record time on Flynet's new Viewer platform.
Viewer takes data directly from the iSeries-based Invensys Prism MRP system - with no intervention with the existing application - and feeds it into intuitive, user-friendly browser pages for use by operators at the brewery. Many complex screens from the old system are combined into simple, logical data-entry screens which are much faster to use and greatly reduce errors by using limited input ranges and drop-down menus. Operators also find it much easier and quicker to reconcile actual stock levels with those recorded in the system, further increasing productivity.

The move to Flynet Viewer takes advantage of Flynet's unique screen rejuvenation technology, making the application both faster and more reliable than had been possible with the previous web-to-host
platform. Video Presentation
Access to the new application is governed by existing InBev security mechanisms. Viewer connects the iSeries sign on directly to the standard Microsoft ASP.Net web application security model. This removed the need for user account management. Not having to remember yet another username and password is an additional bonus for users.
Viewer implements its error and exception handling in line with contemporary thinking. Couple this with the Microsoft .Net platform and not only is the final application more robust, but ongoing maintenance and change is straightforward. Detailed task and performance logging allows simple application tuning.
Microsoft ASP.Net linked in with the .NET classes of Flynet Viewer helped build a seamless web application. Microsoft .Net allowed the rapid development of very sophisticated and intuitive user interface for the web without all the traditional drawbacks of web based application design. This rapid development along with the inherant scalability of .Net solutions makes it very appealing to large organisations.
