U.K’s Largest retailer chooses Flynet to provide store staff with mobile access to pricing information.

Tesco has successfully implemented a major strategic initiative to improve stock control and maximise shelf utilisation, as part of a three year programme to develop new architecture for building and hosting web-based software. As part of this initiative staff have been provided with web-enabled Microsoft Pocket PC hand-held computers, which rely on a unique new software package to provide essential connectivity to the company's existing UNIX based pricing data. The connectivity software provided by Flynet Viewer services over a thousand in-store IBM RS6000 mid-range computers linked to a central IBM Mainframe.

British Telecom have recently piloted a new project for Northern Ireland Health Authority to enable one of their VMS H.R .applications to connect via web services to Active Directory through Microsoft BizTalk Server controlling user accounts with many more projects in the pipeline.

The creation of user accounts was performed manually by skilled operators. It required the completion of a total of 32 processes that included creating 6 separate IBM AS400 host accounts, the setting of 13 database security permissions, and the setting of 13 codes. This task was both tedious and prone to error.

The QUIC solution: Flynet's solution was to provide the operator with a single web page containing all the information required to create a host account. Once the operator had filled all the information into the web page and submitted it, Flynet's solution automated the creation of accounts across all the hosts.

In addition to reducing the points of interaction for the operator from more than 200 screens to only 1 web page, the solution also reduced account creation time by a factor of more than 25, and reduced the error rate to virtually nil. Using Viewer, Flynet was able code the initial phase in less than 3 weeks, on time and on budget.

So successful has this solution been that it is now in it’s third generation QUIC 3. The company continues to expand and now the QUIC3 application supports a user base of over 9,000 employees on 22 hosts systems, administered by a small team implementing a process that once took 2 ½ hours in under 10 seconds!

Penson Financial have created web services via Flynet Viewer Studio that are consumed by Microsoft Office InfoPath forms to update trade information in a mainframe application from SunGard.  The Microsoft Office InfoPath forms are part of a large workflow application created by the K2 workflow tool.

Web services that perform "stock movement" functionality within their SunGard mainframe application are initiated via Microsoft InfoPath forms with a K2 workflow. All functionality resides inside a MicrosoftSharePoint 2003 Portal.

The new web services have been in production for 3 months running flawlessly processing some 40 transactions per day. So successful has the project been that Penson are looking to create new additional web services and have and show what Flynet Viewer can do for their Canadian affiliates AS400 host.

Other Flynet Viewer usage scenarios leveraging Microsoft technology

Currently an existing Inventu customer is evaluating Viewers' ASP.NET emulator via theMicrosoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 product. Generating web services via Microsoft BizTalk server to integrate many disparate applications include the JD Edwards AS400 package.
